Lemoncello
commits to Celtic Cup
The UK’s top
male steeplechaser Andrew Lemoncello, who recently clocked of a new PB of
8:23.74 to beat the UK Athletics qualification guideline for this
summer’s IAAF World Championships in Osaka, is the latest athlete to be
confirmed for the Bank of Scotland Celtic Cup on Tuesday July 31 at
Grangemouth Stadium, Falkirk.
Lemoncello (Fife
AC) will line up in the Bank of Scotland Dream Mile alongside
Australia’s Craig Mottram, where he will be aiming to go sub-4 minutes
for the first time in a bid to become only the 20th Scottish athlete to
achieve the feat.
He said:
"If weather conditions are fair and the home crowd really get behind
me, then I'll never have a better chance to go sub-4 minutes, especially
with Craig in the race to push the pace," he said.
The 24-year-old,
who has just completed his studies at Florida State University, has made
clear his intentions to race more in Scotland: "I'm really looking
forward to the Bank of Scotland Celtic Cup. Racing in a Scottish vest in
front of a packed stadium live on Sky TV will be a fantastic opportunity.
"Further
down the line I'm aiming for the World Cross Country Championships on home
soil in Edinburgh 2008, so Craig and I may well meet again. I definitely
want to get the Grangemouth crowd on my side on July 31st!" |
