Linford Christie

Shortly after the disqualification of Ben Johnson in the Seoul Olympics, Linford Christie made the point that no amount of drugs could transform an average athlete into a champion.

However, Britain's former Olympic sprint champion, Linford Christie, was been suspended from athletics after failing a drugs test.

The IAAF suspended the 1992 Olympic champion following a positive test for Nandrolone at an indoor meet in Germany last February.

The 39-year-old Christie, who has retired from serious competition, said he was "completely innocent of any wrong doing, and will vigorously defend himself against any charge."

He says he could not believe the finding when it was first announced, saying he thought it was a joke.
