Sykes announced Athlete of the match

 

Nicola Sykes (Leighton Buzzard AC) was today named Athlete of the Meeting at the Belfast International, incorporating the Reebok Cross Challenge.

She earned the accolade from the meeting held on Saturday 10 January by the winning the Under 17 Women’s 3.2km race. It was her third emphatic victory in this winter’s series, following her successes by 26 seconds at Falkirk and by 44 seconds at Birmingham.

The adjudicators were particularly impressed by the way in which she won by a large margin yet again to continue her domination of the age group.

The success marked an emphatic return to form for Sykes, who was third Under 17 at the Reebok Liverpool Cross Challenge.

She is in the field for the Reebok Cardiff Cross Challenge on Sunday 18 January, when her rivals could include Emily Pidgeon (Gloucester AC), who led home both the Under 20s and Under 17s in Liverpool.
